Rory T. Poole
President & CEO
Fresh out of college with a degree in forestry, Rory Poole knew he wanted to work with his hands and somehow be connected to wood. At a young age, he ran a sawmill in Kentucky and then worked as a surveyor with the U.S. Forestry Service.
In the mid 80s, Rory relocated to New England and joined Champlin Box Company located in Hartford’s west end as a scheduler. Then he never imagined he would one day own the multi-million dollar company, which creates large-scale custom boxes for aerospace and manufacturing businesses across the Northeast.
Today, more than 30 years later, Poole not only owns and operates Champlin-Packrite, Inc., but he has expanded his entrepreneurial portfolio to include two additional companies, iHUB Packaging & Logistics and American Alternatives, which creates flexible and sustainable corrugated alternatives to wood/box pallet systems.
Recognizing the need for greater inventory control and maintenance, Rory recently opened iHUB in the former Gerber Scientific building, occupying more than 100,000 square feet of usable space on a hilltop in Manchester.
Rory believes his innovative ideas can transform the packaging and shipping industry. He is determined to replace (where applicable) cumbersome and bulky wood pallets with 100% recyclable triple wall corrugated cardboard and a unique runner system. The unique and flexible pallet system is currently being used by some of Champlin’s largest customers.
Rory is a member of Connecticut Business & Industry Association (CBIA) and the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM). His company has also been active in the Parkville Neighborhood Association, where the manufacturing plant is located. A resident of Western Massachusetts, Rory has two grown children, Sean and Bonnie, with his wife, Christine.
Sean T. Poole
Chief Operating Officer
Sean Poole began his career as program manager at Champlin Packrite and then ventured out for two
years before rejoining his father to run the suite of companies.
A process advocate, Sean has implemented continuous improvements business-wide to create greater efficiencies and establish an interconnected MRP environment between multiple facilities.
Sean heads up human resources, finance, operations, technology and marketing. Under Sean’s guidance, process flow and work feed at the manufacturing plant have dramatically improved, reducing direct labor costs and customer delivery times.
Prior to taking on the leadership role at Champlin, Sean worked as production manager at ORM Inc. in Northborough, Mass., where he implemented a new physical layout in the ISO environment, ultimately improving workflow and profitability.
Sean gained valuable experience managing a diverse team of manufacturing, assembly and shipping employees in the wire harness, panel and box build industry. He was also instrumental in helping the company achieve 73% sales growth, leading to its successful acquisition by an industry leader a few years later.
An entrepreneur by nature, Sean ran a small non-profit event planning business right after he graduated from Nichols College in Dudley, Mass.
He still dreams of running a non-profit business someday. Sean spends his weekends on the slopes in Vermont with his dogs Chase and Bode.
